The Path to Clean Energy - and the Roadblocks
USAWed Feb 12 2025
A lot of people might think everything is doomed if someone in power opposes cleaner energy and pushes coal, but amazingly, it is not that simple.
Let's start from the big picture. The United States has been making huge progress in producing electricity from wind, sun, and even cleaning up gas. The push for clean energy is not a fad; it's a trend that has been growing for 20 years. In fact, America is producing more energy than ever, including oil, gas, wind, and solar power. And this is not just about producing energy, but also about exporting it. America's exports of oil and gas are soaring to record highs.
So what's happening now? Well, some people in power are trying to slow things down. New rules have been made to make it harder for renewable energy. The Inflation Reduction Act and the bipartisan infrastructure law have pushed some serious money into clean energy investments across the country. This includes areas that lean towards a certain side of politics.
People in charge might say they aim to stall clean energy projects, but this is a tough sell. The clean energy movement has gained significant momentum. Also, the clean energy economy is already strong and growing. So, it's going to be a long road for whoever tries to halt this progress.
The United States has managed to cut greenhouse gas emissions while maintaining the same level of energy consumption for over two decades. This is impressive, considering the economy has nearly tripled and the population has grown by 20 percent. The power sector alone has seen a shift from coal to cleaner sources. This is a big deal because the power sector produces a lot of the country's greenhouse gases.
The energy market has seen a lot of changes and is not going to stop anytime soon. The momentum towards cleaner, cheaper sources of energy is huge. They might not be allowed to slow the clean energy investments flowing from the Inflation Reduction Act and the bipartisan infrastructure law into Republican districts nationwide. The energy market is strong, and the momentum is strong. It's going to be a rough road for anyone trying to disrupt that progress.
