Ever thought about what it's like to work in a place where you can be yourself and share your ideas without fear? That's what organizations strive for with something called Perception of Psychological Safety (PPS). The problem is, there aren't many ways to accurately measure it. So, researchers took a look at various theories and created a new model that divides PPS into three layers: the entire organization, individual teams, and even one-on-one conversations.
To put this new model to the test, they chose 12 startups from a lively coastal region in China. Guess what? The new scale turned out to be super reliable and made sense. It could even tell the difference between similar ideas. It was like finding the perfect tool for the job.
But why is this such a big deal? When employees feel safe, it helps organizations avoid risks and boost performance. It's like having a safety net that lets employees take risks, learn, and grow.
Next time you think about your work environment, ask yourself this: does it feel safe to be you and take chances? If not, maybe it's time to think about what could be improved.
