The Power of Fundus Photos in Eye Cancer Treatment

Trying to plan a complex operation, like ocular proton beam therapy, without having all the essential information. That's the current challenge faced by doctors, as important eye structures like the fovea can't be seen using traditional imaging methods like MRI. Fundus photographs can fill this gap, but the eye's optics complicate things by altering the images in unique, patient-specific ways. This means that while fundus photos could be incredibly useful, we're not yet able to use them effectively in treatment planning.It's like trying to put together a jigsaw puzzle, but each piece is slightly warped, and you have to figure out how they fit together for each new puzzle. Future advances in figuring out these optical distortions could revolutionize how we treat eye conditions, making treatments more precise and effective.
