The Steelers' Big Swap: What's Up with Minkah?
Pittsburgh, USATue Jul 01 2025
The Pittsburgh Steelers made a huge move. They traded for Jalen Ramsey and Jonnu Smith. But to get them, they let go of Minkah Fitzpatrick. He was with the team for six years. He came from the Miami Dolphins in 2019. Now, he's back with them.
Some Steelers players were not happy with Fitzpatrick last season. After a tough loss, defensive captain Cam Heyward said, "When 10 guys do their job and one guy doesn't, we are screwed. " DeShon Elliott also had strong words. He said, "Guys can't be wide open. Just do your job. "
People think Fitzpatrick might be the player they were talking about. He was set to make almost $23 million this year. But his performance wasn't as good as it used to be. The team's secondary had big problems at the end of the season.
Patrick Queen, a linebacker, defended Fitzpatrick. He shut down a fan who asked if Fitzpatrick was out of position. Queen's response was short but clear. It seems he wanted to stop any bad talk about Fitzpatrick.
The Steelers' defense had issues last season. They hope Ramsey can help fix things. But the trade raises questions. Was Fitzpatrick really the problem? Or is there more to the story?
