The Surprising Truth About Normal Weight and Health Risks
Sat Dec 14 2024
Everyone knows that obesity is bad for your health, right? But what happens when you look perfectly fine on the outside but are still at risk? Meet normal weight obesity (NWO) – where people have a normal body mass index (BMI), but they're carrying too much fat. This can lead to a range of health issues called cardiometabolic risk factors (CMRFs).
Let's dive into a big study that gathered information from 25 articles and over 177, 000 people. The study found that having too much fat, even if your weight looks normal, can increase your chances of getting diseases like diabetes and high blood pressure. In fact, the risk of having high triglycerides (a type of fat in your blood) was almost doubled!
The researchers also found that people with NWO had worse cholesterol levels and other health markers. This shows that just looking at someone's weight isn't enough to know if they're healthy.
The takeaway? It's not just about how much you weigh, but what you're made of. So, focusing on body fat might give a better picture of your health.
