The Tim Walz Mug Shot: True or False?
Thu Oct 03 2024
Back in August 2024, a photo claimed to be Minnesota Governor Tim Walz's mug shot from a 1995 drunk driving charge went viral online. Some people were skeptical and asked if the picture was real or fake. They had seen the photo on social media platforms like Twitter/X but weren't sure what to believe.
We decided to investigate this claim. The Dawes County Sheriff's Office confirmed that Timothy James Walz, who is now Minnesota's governor, was indeed arrested for DUI in 1995. At the time, he was a high school teacher and football coach in Nebraska.
On September 23, 1995, around 9:30 p. m. , Walz was caught driving at 96 mph in a 55 mph zone. The police officer noted that there was a strong smell of alcohol coming from him. After failing both the field sobriety test and a preliminary breath test, he was taken to the hospital for a blood test and then to the Dawes County Jail.
Walz later pleaded guilty to reckless driving and paid $200 in fines. He even offered to resign from his teaching job, but the principal talked him out of it. We tried reaching out to Walz's office for a comment, but we haven't received any response yet.
