The Uncounted Matches: Girls Wrestling in 2025

Sandpoint, USAFri Jan 24 2025
Last week, I went to the Battle for the Paddle event at Sandpoint High School. The wrestling matches were the highlight for me. The boys from Lakeland and Sandpoint schools showed some impressive skills, with Lakeland coming out on top. However, something didn't add up. The two girls from each school who wrestled didn't have their scores counted. Why? I asked around and found out that the coaches from Lakeland didn't want the girls' scores to be included. Isn't that strange? After all, these girls are part of the team too. Interestingly, the girls from Sandpoint pinned their Lakeland opponents. I later learned that there were eight girls from Lakeland who wanted to wrestle that night, but only two were allowed to. This information came straight from a girl on the Lakeland team. It makes you wonder, don't women have the same rights as men in Lakeland? Can they vote? Drive cars? Have jobs? It's 2025, not 1915, coaches. Let's treat all athletes equally.
