The Unique Story of Lisa Marie Presley and Her Son Benjamin

Graceland, Memphis, USATue Oct 08 2024
When Lisa Marie Presley lost her son Benjamin in 2020, she faced an incredibly challenging time. Benjamin, who was 27, died by suicide. Presley, who passed away in 2023, shared her experience in her posthumous memoir “From Here to the Great Unknown. ” She revealed that she kept Benjamin’s body at her Los Angeles home for two months after his death. According to the law in California, there's no immediate requirement to bury someone, so she kept his body in a separate room called a casita, maintaining a temperature of 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Presley couldn't decide where to bury Benjamin, either in Hawaii or at Graceland, her father Elvis Presley’s estate in Memphis. She felt that having his body at home allowed her to delay the final goodbye and come to terms with his passing. Eventually, she and her daughter Riley decided to get tattoos inspired by Benjamin's. They invited a tattoo artist to see Benjamin’s body in person. Riley noted that it was crucial for her mother to have enough time to say goodbye to Benjamin, just as she had done with her father Elvis, who died when she was 9. After two months, they felt it was time to let him go. Benjamin was eventually buried at Graceland with his grandfather Elvis. Presley wrote in People magazine that she was devastated by Benjamin's death but kept going for her daughter Riley and her twin daughters, Finley and Harper. She mentioned that Benjamin's last moments were filled with concern for his sisters. In 2022, Presley went into cardiac arrest and died due to complications from a small bowel obstruction. Riley later became the sole trustee of Graceland after a legal battle with her grandmother, Priscilla Presley. Riley opened up about losing her mother and brother in an interview with Oprah Winfrey at Graceland, which aired in October 2023. She expressed her belief that her family members who passed away were on a new adventure. Mental health is crucial.
