Three Golfers Tie for Lead as Round 1 Ends Early

Los Cabos, MexicoFri Nov 08 2024
In the World Wide Technology Championship, Kevin Streelman, Tom Whitney, and Rico Hoey ended the first day tied at the top with scores of 5-under 67. Streelman, who hasn't won a PGA Tour event since 2014, started strong with an eagle and a birdie. The windy conditions made the course tough, especially holes 1 and 18. Whitney also began well, birdieing the first three holes. He adjusted his expectations due to the wind. "You're thinking you need to get to 6, 7, 8, " he said. "But then the wind starts blowing, and you're pleased with 5 under. " Defending champion Erik van Rooyen was close behind with a score of 68. He noted the difference from last year's event, saying, "There was maybe one club of wind last year. " Colombian golfer Nico Echavarria, recently winning the Zozo Championship in Japan, started with a bogey-free 69. "A lot of wind in the morning, " he commented on his round.
