Three Men Charged with Assault After Santana Row Attack

San Jose, CA, USAThu May 14 2026
A group of three men were brought before a judge on Wednesday for an assault that happened outside a restaurant in Santana Row. The incident took place on March 8 and involved two Israeli‑American men who were speaking Hebrew on a patio. The three suspects—Bruneil Henry Chamaki, Roma Akoyans and Ramon Akoyans—were not given the option to plead. They face one count each of felony assault, and Chamaki also has a misdemeanor battery charge. Video evidence shows the attackers punching the victims and grabbing their feet before running away. One victim was knocked out, and both suffered head injuries.
During the attack, a witness heard one of the assailants say something like “Jews” in a harsh tone. Another witness said an attacker pointed at a victim’s Star of David necklace. Investigators reviewed the footage and statements but did not find proof that the attack was motivated by religious hatred. Therefore, prosecutors decided not to file hate crime charges. The case will focus on the assault itself and on determining whether any other motive existed. The court will keep the public safe by ensuring the defendants are held accountable.
