Australia is making some big changes to its gun laws and how it handles hate symbols after a recent attack in Bondi. The state of New South Wales, which is home to the most people in Australia, is pushing through new laws. These laws will make it harder to own lots of guns and stop people from showing terrorist symbols.
The attack happened during a Jewish holiday celebration on December 14. Fifteen people died, and many were hurt. This event has made people demand stronger gun control and better protection against hate crimes. The government wants to limit most people to four guns, but farmers can have up to ten.
The man behind the attack, Sajid Akram, had six guns. His son, Naveed, is facing serious charges. Even though Australia already has strict gun laws, some people still own a huge number of guns. One person even has 298 guns!
Most Australians want stricter gun laws, but not everyone agrees. Some people, especially those in rural areas, think these new rules will make things harder for farmers. The national government is also working on tighter gun controls and a plan to buy back guns. However, they are not setting up a big investigation into the attack.
Instead, they are doing a review of how well intelligence and law enforcement agencies are doing their jobs. The Prime Minister is under pressure to do more to stop hate crimes. The Defence Minister said they need answers fast and don't want to wait years for a big investigation.
