Pokemon Legends Z-A has introduced a new trio of starters, and it has sparked some interesting ideas. Why not add a dinosaur type? It's been a while since new types were added to the game. The last new type, Fairy, was introduced in 2013. Before that, Steel and Dark types were added in 1999. So, it's about time for a new type. This new type could be dinosaur-themed.
The idea of a dinosaur type isn't so far-fetched. Two of the starters in Z-A are over 25 years old. They look like dinosaurs in their final forms. Meganium looks like a Brachiosaurus, and Feraligatr looks like a Deinosuchus. These Pokemon are mono-types, so they could easily be given a secondary typing.
There are plenty of other Pokemon that could be classified as dinosaurs. Tyrantrum is a T-Rex, Aerodactyl is a Pterodactyl, and Aurorus is another Brachiosaurus-like Pokemon. Bastiodon has Triceratops-inspired horns and spikes. Kabutops and Omastar are ancient, but they're not very dinosaur-like.
The idea of a dinosaur type could shake up the competitive format. Dinosaurs are big, reptilian creatures that could be mortal enemies of dragons and fairies. They could be super effective against Dragon and Fairy-types. They could also be strong against Fighting-types and Normal-types. As for weaknesses, dinosaurs could be weak to Rock, Electric, and Steel-types.
Implementing a dinosaur type in Z-A would be a great way to subvert expectations. It would be interesting if a Pokemon type from the past was discovered in a game set in the series' future. Maybe Zygarde could unlock latent dinosaur genes in a bunch of Pokemon. Or maybe Pokemon professors could admit that a lot of Dinosaur-types were actually misclassified as Dragon-types.
The idea of a dinosaur type could make a lot of money. Kids love dinosaurs and Pokemon. So, it stands to reason that they would go crazy for Dinosaur-type Pokemon. And me. I would also go crazy for this.
The idea of a dinosaur type could give some underutilized types a chance to shine. It could also give the top dogs a run for their money. It could shake up the competitive format and make the game more interesting. It could also make the game more fun and engaging for players.
