Tornado Watch and Heat Alert Hit Colorado’s Eastern Plains

Colorado, USASun Jun 21 2026
A tornado watch is in effect for the northeastern part of Colorado until 9 p. m. This covers counties such as Cheyenne, Kit Carson, Lincoln, Logan, Phillips, Sedgwick, Washington and Yuma. The warning follows a forecast that summer storms could trigger tornadoes across the eastern plains. In addition, almost every county in Colorado is under some form of severe weather alert. Many areas are receiving red flag warnings because the heat, low humidity and strong winds create a dangerous environment for wildfires.
Forecasters have also issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Adams, Arapahoe and Washington counties. These storms could bring hail the size of ping‑pong balls and wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour. The situation is still developing, so residents should stay informed and follow local weather updates closely.
