Toronto is in for a rough ride as a strong weather system moves in. Environment Canada has issued a Yellow Warning for southern Ontario, including the GTA. Expect a mix of heavy rain, freezing rain, and strong winds starting Sunday afternoon and lasting until Monday morning.
First, the rain will start around noon on Sunday. It might begin as freezing rain in some spots before turning into regular rain later in the day. This could make some roads unsafe, especially in low-lying areas. People are advised to stay away from rivers, creeks, and culverts due to flooding risks.
The rain is expected to ease up by Monday morning, but that's when the wind kicks in. Strong gusts of 70 to 80 km/h are forecasted as a cold front moves through. These winds could cause local power outages and damage to roofs, fences, and tree branches. Areas that got freezing rain will be especially vulnerable.
Similar warnings are also in place for Peel, York, and Durham regions. Residents are urged to secure any loose objects around their homes and keep an eye on weather updates as the situation changes.
While the weather might be intense, it's important to stay informed and take precautions. This isn't just about inconvenience; it's about safety. So, whether you're staying in or venturing out, be prepared for whatever Mother Nature throws your way.
