In November, China witnessed two shocking attacks that left many dead. A man named Fan Weiqiu, 62, drove his car into a crowd at a sports center in Zhuhai, killing 35 people. He was executed three weeks after being sentenced to death. The attack was fueled by his distress over a failed marriage and a divorce settlement he thought was unfair. In the same month, another man named Xu Jiajin, 21, stabbed eight people to death on a college campus in Wuxi. His motive was dissatisfaction with his exam results, lack of a graduation certificate, and low internship pay. Xu was also executed. Both attacks have sparked concerns about rising violent crimes in China, despite its low crime rates. The government has increased security measures and called for harsh punishments to deter future attacks. The executions were widely supported on social media in China.
