Tragedy Strikes Istanbul Family on Holiday
Fri Nov 14 2025
A family from Germany was on a dream holiday in Istanbul. They were enjoying the sights and sounds of the city. They decided to try some local street food. This is something many tourists do. But this time, it ended in tragedy.
The family of four ate at a popular spot in Ortakoy. This is a waterside neighborhood under a famous bridge. They tried several dishes. These included mussels with rice, stuffed baked potatoes, and grilled lamb entrails. Soon after, they felt very sick.
The two young children, aged 6 and 3, did not survive. Their mother also passed away. The father is now fighting for his life. This is a heartbreaking story. It shows the risks that can come with street food.
Authorities have taken samples from the restaurant. They have also taken four people into custody. An investigation is ongoing. This is to find out what went wrong.
This is not the first time something like this has happened. About five months ago, a girl in France died from food poisoning. In the U. S. , foodborne illness kills over 900 people every year. Millions more get sick. Many cases go unreported.
It's important to be careful when eating out. Especially in places where food safety may not be as strict. This tragedy serves as a reminder. Always be cautious with street food.
