Tragic Night in Holmes County: Three Killed, Eight Hurt in Trail Ride Shooting

In the early hours of Saturday, a trail ride near Lexington in Holmes County turned deadly. Sheriff Willie March reported that three people lost their lives and eight others were injured in a sudden mass shooting. The incident occurred around midnight, just five miles from the town, following a homecoming celebration at Holmes County Consolidated School. The sheriff revealed that the tragedy unfolded after an altercation, with a shooter opening fire into the crowd.The victims were identified as Martel Gibson, 25, Shundra Chestnut, 19, and John Jenkins, 19. Several injured individuals were urgently airlifted to nearby hospitals. Investigators suspect the shooter used a switch on their gun, but no suspects have been identified yet. Law enforcement is urging anyone with information to contact the Holmes County Sheriff's Office or Crime Stoppers.
