Tragic Strike in Gaza: What You Need to Know
Gaza StripTue Oct 29 2024
Early on Tuesday, an Israeli strike hit a building in northern Gaza where displaced Palestinians were seeking shelter. The attack claimed the lives of at least 34 people, with more than half being women and children. This is just one of the many strikes that have been targeting areas where Palestinian militants are believed to be hiding. The Israeli military claims these strikes are precise and aim to avoid civilian casualties, but the reality often shows otherwise.
The strike in Beit Lahiya also left 20 people injured, and some are still believed to be trapped under the rubble. This comes as Israel continues its large-scale operation in northern Gaza, which has been going on for over three weeks. The operation has already killed hundreds and displaced tens of thousands.
Israel has also restricted aid to the north, which has sparked concern from the United States. The U. S. has warned that failure to facilitate aid efforts could lead to a reduction in military aid. Palestinians fear that Israel might be implementing a plan proposed by former generals to evacuate civilians and cut off aid.
The Israeli parliament has passed laws that could prevent the UN agency for Palestinian refugees from operating in the Palestinian territories. This has led to international outcry, with countries like Britain and Germany voicing their displeasure.
The war started when Hamas-led militants attacked Israel in October 2023, killing over 1, 200 people and abducting around 250. Israel's retaliatory offensive has since killed over 43, 000 Palestinians and displaced around 90% of the population.
