Transforming Teamwork in Thai Hospitals: Testing TeamSTEPPS®
THAILANDWed Jan 22 2025
TeamSTEPPS® is a strategy that aims to boost communication and team spirit in hospitals. But has it been tested among healthcare teams? In Thailand, researchers put the TeamSTEPPS® tools to the test with a survey. They looked at two questionnaires: the Teamwork Attitudes Questionnaire (T-TAQ) and the Teamwork Perceptions Questionnaire (T-TPQ). Over 300 healthcare professionals filled out these self-administered forms. The forms had 27 and 32 items respectively, asking about things like team structure, leadership, and communication. The goal was to see if these tools work well in Thai hospitals.
The study had two main parts. First, they translated the questionnaires into Thai. Then, they tested how good these new versions were. They checked if the questions made sense (content validity), if the results matched what they should (confirmatory factor analysis), and if the questions were consistent (McDonald's omega). The results were promising. Both questionnaires showed good internal consistency and validity. This means the questions were reliable and asked the right things.
So, can TeamSTEPPS® help improve teamwork in Thai hospitals? Based on this study, yes! The T-TAQ and T-TPQ are solid tools for understanding how healthcare professionals feel about teamwork.
