The M23 group, backed by Rwanda, has taken hundreds of Burundian soldiers prisoner during their latest attack in eastern Congo. This happened just days after Congo and Rwanda's leaders promised to keep the peace. The U. S. is not happy and has warned Rwanda to stop breaking the rules.
M23 has taken over the important town of Uvira, right by the Burundi border. This is a big deal because it shows they are getting stronger. The group's leader, Patrick Busu Bwa Ngwi, said they will send the captured soldiers back home if Burundi asks nicely. But Burundi has not said anything yet.
M23 has been fighting hard since January. They have taken over big cities and killed many people. They are now setting up their own government in the east, which could split Congo in two. Congo has lots of valuable minerals, like cobalt, which the U. S. wants to invest in.
The rebels say they will keep fighting to stop Congo's army from hurting people. Meanwhile, Congo's army is trying to get back the towns they lost. A group called Doctors Without Borders has stopped working in one town because it is too dangerous.
Rwanda says it is not helping M23, but a U. N. report says otherwise. The U. S. is watching closely and wants Rwanda to follow the peace deal. If not, there could be big trouble ahead.
