Trouble Near the White House: What Happened?

Two soldiers from West Virginia are in bad shape after a shooting near the White House. It happened around 2:15 p. m. on Wednesday. A man turned a corner, pulled out a gun, and started shooting. Other soldiers nearby heard the shots and quickly stopped the shooter. The White House was locked down for a while, but the lockdown was lifted around 5 p. m. President Trump and the First Lady were not there. They were in Florida, celebrating Thanksgiving at Mar-a-Lago. The shooter's name is Rahmanullah Lakanwal. He is 29 years old and came to the U. S. from Afghanistan in 2021. He got asylum in 2025. The FBI is looking into this as a possible terrorist attack. The soldiers were in Washington, D. C. , because of a federal takeover. President Trump said the city is now safe. He thanked the soldiers for their work.
