Troy Road Work Slams Local Shops and Commutes Again
A chef at Pudge's Place says the latest construction is killing his business. James Pitchford watches customers vanish as detours steer them away. He even drives a long loop just to reach his own kitchen. "Make sure you keep coming," he tells regulars, but the frustration is real.
The west side of Long Lake Road at Rochester Road shut down Monday. Crews say it could stay closed for three weeks if weather holds. This is just one piece of a massive multi-year plan to widen Rochester Road. The east side of the same intersection went through the exact same thing back in June.
Detours turn a quick one-mile drive into a three-mile slog. The city suggests heading north to Square Lake Road or south to Wattles Road. Most drivers ignore both and cut through private parking lots instead. It's chaotic and nobody seems happy.
Long Lake Road between Livernois and Rochester stays open but only for local traffic. Through cars get turned around. Residents and businesses keep access but delays are guaranteed. The city warns of temporary changes and headaches.
New lanes on Rochester Road might open by the end of 2026. Final cleanup and restoration won't wrap until summer 2027. That's a long wait for everyone stuck in the middle.
