Trump Family’s Crypto Project Faces New Heat Over Suspected Ties

A recent report put a spotlight on World Liberty Financial (WLF), a cryptocurrency project tied to the Trump family, after it launched a stablecoin on AB Chain—a blockchain network connected to a controversial resort plan in Timor-Leste. That project, meant to promote blockchain adoption and charity work, later became linked to individuals later blacklisted by the U. S. Treasury for their roles in large-scale online scams. While no direct proof tied AB Chain to these banned figures, the timing raised eyebrows, especially since the resort’s team quickly removed those individuals after the sanctions were announced.
Senator Elizabeth Warren seized on the news to question the ethics of WLF, calling it a worrying example of how crypto ventures can cross into risky territory. She argued that while the Trump family pushes digital currency projects, lawmakers need stronger rules to stop shady dealings from slipping through. Warren isn’t alone in her skepticism—earlier this year, she slammed a $500 million investment in WLF from the UAE, calling it a sign of corruption.
The timing couldn’t be worse for WLF. Just days before the report, a well-known crypto entrepreneur sued the company, claiming his rights as a token holder were ignored. WLF’s token value also took a hit, dropping over 13% in a single day. Despite these setbacks, the White House pushed back, dismissing the criticism as a tired political tactic.
The bigger question here isn’t just about WLF’s legal troubles—it’s about how fast-moving industries like crypto can accidentally (or intentionally) get tangled in murky alliances. With regulators still figuring out how to handle digital money, gaps in oversight can let bad actors slip through. Meanwhile, the Trump family’s crypto push keeps drawing scrutiny, raising doubts about whether these projects prioritize profit or public safety.
