Donald Trump, the newly elected president, has been making headlines with his bold statements on various issues. In a recent interview, he discussed his plans for trade, justice, and immigration. Trump isn't sure if his tariffs on imports from countries like Mexico and Canada will raise prices for American consumers. He believes these levies will make the U. S. rich, but admits he can't guarantee anything.
When it comes to the justice system, Trump has some strong opinions. He thinks certain political rivals and federal officials should go to jail for investigating him. Despite his past convictions, he insists he isn't interested in revenge. However, he did mention specific lawmakers, like Rep. Bennie Thompson and former Rep. Liz Cheney, who he believes were behind investigations against him.
Immigration is a key issue for Trump. He plans to seal the U. S. -Mexico border and deport millions of people who are in the country illegally. He also wants to end birthright citizenship and find a solution for those brought to the U. S. illegally as children. However, his stance on not wanting to break up families is a bit confusing, as he suggests sending entire families back together.
Trump has mixed feelings about NATO and Russia. He plans to stay in NATO if allies pay their bills but isn't sure if he'll withdraw if they don't. He thinks Ukraine should prepare for less U. S. aid and has called for a ceasefire with Russia. Trump also has different plans for the Federal Reserve and FBI. He doesn't plan to ask Jerome Powell to step down as Fed chair, but isn't sure about FBI Director Christopher Wray's job.
On social issues, Trump promises not to touch Social Security. He's not clear on his abortion stance but might not restrict access to abortion pills. He also has a plan to replace the Affordable Care Act with something better and cheaper, while keeping protections for people with preexisting conditions.
