As concerns over safety rise, Donald Trump's campaign team has been pushing for greater security measures ahead of the upcoming presidential election. Two attempted assassinations and an ongoing threat from Iran have prompted Trump's team to ask for military aircraft with anti-missile capabilities and other protective measures during his campaign events across the US. His team also wants extra ground security, special vehicles, and more surveillance drones to shield Trump and his team from potential hazards. President Joe Biden showed support for these requests, stating that Trump deserves top-notch protection akin to a sitting president, but joked that providing F-15 fighter jets might go too far. Trump's campaign manager, Susie Wiles, started the ball rolling with a request two weeks ago, talking to Biden’s chief of staff, Jeff Zients. She then followed up with an email to the acting Secret Service Director, Ronald Rowe, on September 30. Meanwhile, Biden's administration has directed the Secret Service to ensure Trump receives the best protection possible. The requests also include using vehicles from Camp David and ramping up the stockpiles of ballistic glass in key states for Trump's outdoor rallies. Trump's team isn’t content with the pace of implementation and has grown frustrated, claiming that the Secret Service hasn't done enough to safeguard the former president. As a result, Trump has changed his routine, traveling on different planes and staying at various locations. Some of Trump's requests might face legal hurdles due to restrictions on using the military within the US. Despite these challenges, the Secret Service continues to enhance Trump’s protection, deploying additional personnel, advanced technology, and imposing flight restrictions around his residences and events. The heightened security measures are a result of recent threats, including an alleged Iranian plot to assassinate Trump. The Secret Service has committed to adjusting and upgrading its security posture based on evolving threats.
