Trump's Canada Idea: Why Not an Anglosphere Alliance Instead?
CanadaSat Jan 11 2025
In the past, the U. S. has tried to invade Canada several times. Now, President-Elect Donald Trump seems interested in absorbing Canada into the U. S. But why? Is it a serious proposal or just a bluff? Many Canadians don't want to be part of the U. S. , and annexing Canada could change U. S. politics significantly. Instead of threatening Canada, why not form a close partnership that addresses both countries' concerns?
The U. S. and Canada already cooperate in many areas, like travel and trade. Why not deepen this cooperation? They could work together on defense, border security, and trade. For example, they could have a joint military force for Arctic security and common rules for border control. This would solve Trump's concerns about border security, trade imbalances, and military freeloading.
But why stop at Canada? The U. S. , Canada, the U. K. , Australia, and New Zealand already work together on security issues. Why not create an Anglosphere Union, based on freedom and open markets? This alliance could be a powerful force for good in the world. After all, these countries have a long history of working together when facing perils.
