Trump's First Days: New Orders on Transgender Troops, COVID Mandates, and More

President Trump is kicking off his administration with a series of executive orders. One of these orders asks the Pentagon to figure out a new policy for transgender troops in the military. This order doesn't immediately ban transgender people from serving but asks for a review based on military readiness. Another order is expected to reinstate troops who were removed for refusing COVID-19 vaccines. There's also talk of an order that could impact diversity programs in the military.
Trump has already taken steps to end diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs across the government. This has caused some confusion. For example, videos about the Tuskegee Airmen and the Women's Airforce Service Pilots (WASPs) were temporarily removed from Air Force training courses. These videos are now set to be reinstated, but the situation shows how the new administration is grappling with how to handle DEI topics.
The new Defense Secretary, Pete Hegseth, has started his job with a busy schedule. He's also focusing on the border, saying that whatever is needed there will be provided.
