Gulf of Mexico
Mount Denali, USA
MexicoMon Jan 20 2025
President Trump has some big changes in mind for our nation's maps. He wants to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America and change Mount Denali back to Mount McKinley, all as part of his first few days in office. This news came from his press team on the social media platform X, where they shared a New York Post article about Trump's plans.
He first mentioned the Gulf of Mexico name change at a press conference. Trump thinks that the new name is more fitting and plans to discuss this with the Mexican government. He believes Mexico should stop letting so many people come into the U. S.
Mount Denali used to be called Mount McKinley before. President Obama changed it to reflect the name used by nearby Native Americans. However, some people in Ohio didn't agree. They wanted to keep the name to honor former President McKinley, who was from Ohio.
Trump has said that he will change the mountain's name back to Mount McKinley. He thinks that the change was unfair and that McKinley deserved to be remembered.
The Mexican President, Claudia Sheinbaum, has opposing views. She said that the Gulf of Mexico is recognized worldwide and that the name has been used for a long time. She also joked that they could call it Mexican America instead.
These changes could spark some interesting conversations about history and names.
