Last Sunday, former President Donald Trump gave a nod to Robert F. Kennedy Jr. 's idea of removing fluoride from the U. S. water system. In an interview with NBC News, Trump said, "Sounds okay to me, " when asked about Kennedy's proposition. This view goes against the advice of public health agencies. Kennedy had announced on X, "On January 20, the Trump White House will advise all U. S. water systems to remove fluoride from public water. " Fluoride is naturally present in almost all water sources and is added to help prevent cavities. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the American Dental Association support the safety and effectiveness of fluoride in water.
Kennedy is known for his skepticism towards vaccines, and Trump suggested they might discuss banning certain vaccines if he were president again. The Trump campaign didn't immediately comment on the fluoride remark. Trump's doubts about public health issues could be a challenge for his campaign as the election nears. Recently, comedian Tony Hinchcliffe's comments about Puerto Rico and President Biden's remarks about Trump supporters caused distractions. Republicans believe voters are more focused on key issues like crime and unemployment.
