Two Big Names, One Jail: Diddy and SBF Share Time in NYC Lockup
Brooklyn, USASun Oct 06 2024
In a twist of fate, two high-profile figures, Sean "Diddy" Combs and Sam Bankman-Fried, are currently sharing space at Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center. Diddy, the music mogul, is facing serious federal charges for racketeering and sex trafficking, while SBF, the former crypto kingpin, was sentenced to 25 years in prison for his role in the massive FTX scandal. Both inmates are in a high-security unit of the jail, which also houses government informants who need extra protection. The facility has been home to other famous names like R. Kelly and Ghislaine Maxwell in the past.
Federal officials aren't sharing details about their living conditions or security measures for privacy reasons. They only confirmed that both Diddy and SBF are in a "barracks-style" wing with 18 to 20 other high-security inmates. Despite earlier reports, Diddy is not on suicide watch. He was arrested last week at a New York City hotel and denied bail due to the serious nature of his charges.
SBF, who was found guilty of fraud back in November, is awaiting his appeal after being sentenced to 25 years in March. Prosecutors accused him and other FTX executives of stealing $8 billion from customers, making illegal campaign contributions, buying luxury properties, and even bribing Chinese officials. Caroline Ellison, SBF's former lover and a top executive at FTX who testified against him, is due to be sentenced this week with prosecutors asking for leniency.
