Two Low-Cost Airlines Merge to Offer More Budget Travel Options
USA, Las VegasFri May 15 2026
Two budget airlines, Allegiant and Sun Country, have officially joined forces in a $1. 5 billion deal. The merger comes at a tough time for cheap flights, as rising fuel costs—fueled by Middle Eastern conflicts—push up prices across the industry. Sun Country brings extra benefits to the partnership, including cargo flights for Amazon and charter trips for sports teams and the military. Together, they’ll serve 175 cities with 195 planes, giving travelers more routes to choose from.
For now, nothing changes for passengers. Both airlines will keep running separately, so bookings and check-ins stay the same. The plan is to slowly combine operations under Allegiant’s brand, keeping its headquarters in Las Vegas. The merger could help both airlines survive tough market conditions by sharing resources and cutting costs.
