Two Separate Shootings Rock Massachusetts as Police Seek Answers

Massachusetts is reeling after two separate fatal shootings left communities shaken over the weekend. In Lakeville, a tense situation unfolded when officers responded to a home on Heritage Hill around 2 p.m. Saturday. Someone called police saying a family member was acting erratically and had a gun. When officers entered, they found 31-year-old Gregory Buckley in a second-floor bedroom pointing a weapon at them. Despite commands to drop the gun, gunfire erupted. Buckley was rushed to the hospital but did not survive. Four Lakeville officers were also taken in for evaluation and later released. The Plymouth County District Attorney confirmed body camera footage exists and the case remains under investigation.

Meanwhile, Boston is mourning another life lost. Just hours earlier, around 1 p.m. Saturday, police were called to a business on Walter Street in Hyde Park after reports of someone shot inside. Officers arrived to find a man with multiple gunshot wounds. Boston EMS tried to save him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released. The Boston Police Department's homicide unit is now leading the investigation and asking anyone with information to come forward.

The city has seen a sharp rise in violence this year. Before Saturday's incident, 14 people had already been fatally shot in Boston. Police are urging residents to share any details, especially those who may have witnessed the events. In other news, BPD responded to over 200 incidents in the 24 hours leading up to Sunday morning. Those calls included two robberies, three aggravated assaults, and several break-ins and thefts. The department also reported five auto thefts and 17 miscellaneous larcenies during that time.

Several arrests were made in connection with unrelated cases. Jonathan Farr was charged with assault and battery on a family member. Jose Hernandez faces charges for assaulting an officer. Edu Mayen Munoz is accused of using a dangerous weapon during an assault. George Gunderson was arrested for trespassing, and Oscar Alcazar was taken into custody for driving under the influence. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
