U. S. Keeps Same Goals in Iran Strike Campaign
Washington, USAThu Mar 19 2026
The United States says it has not changed its aims since the first air raid on Iran began at the end of February.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told reporters that the objectives set by President Biden are still in place and have not shifted.
He highlighted that U. S. forces have hit about 7, 000 sites inside Iran and targeted more than 40 mine‑laying ships and 11 submarines, according to Pentagon data.
Hegseth made a point of saying the goals are not influenced by media narratives or Iran’s own plans.
He added that the mission is to destroy Iranian missile launchers, cripple its defense industry and navy, and prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.
During the same briefing, General Dan Caine, head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, confirmed that U. S. operations are on schedule and that strikes are moving deeper into Iranian territory each day.
Both officials emphasized that the strategy remains unchanged and focused on meeting the original targets set at the start of the campaign.
The comments came amid ongoing tensions in the region, with U. S. forces continuing to conduct precision attacks against Iranian military infrastructure.
The statements suggest that Washington is determined to maintain pressure on Iran while sticking to the initial objectives outlined by the administration.
