UFC 324 made history as the first event under Paramount's streaming deal. This shift meant no more expensive pay-per-view nights. Fans now pay less, but ads popped up during walkouts and corner chats. Some fans grumbled about the interruptions, but UFC president Dana White didn't shy away from the backlash.
When asked about the ad-heavy broadcast, White admitted he hadn't seen it yet. He acknowledged that this was all new and a work in progress. He pointed out that the cheaper price tag meant someone had to make up the difference, and that's where the ads came in. White also hinted that Paramount was calling the shots now, but he seemed okay with that.
The new deal wasn't just about ads. It also brought bigger bonuses for fighters. White revamped the bonus structure, increasing the total payout to $450, 000. This included $100, 000 Fight of the Night bonuses and $25, 000 for knockouts or submissions. Fighters like Ty Miller, Josh Hokit, Justin Gaethje, and Paddy Pimblett cashed in on these new bonuses.
White argued that the new format would bring in a wider audience. He also made it clear that the shift to Paramount wasn't just about the fans. It also revised the bonus structure, putting more money in the fighters' pockets. So, while some fans might miss the ad-free experience, the new deal seems to be a win for both the sport and the athletes.
