UFC and Meta Team Up for a Knockout Partnership
USAWed Apr 02 2025
The UFC has secured a significant, long-term collaboration with Meta, the tech giant led by Mark Zuckerberg. This alliance will intertwine UFC's martial arts action with Meta's diverse tech offerings. The deal covers Meta AI, Meta Glasses, Meta Quest, and popular social platforms like Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Threads. The exact financial details of this multimillion-dollar agreement remain under wraps.
Meta is set to become the UFC's official fan technology partner. This means Meta's branding will be prominently displayed in the UFC's Octagon during major events like pay-per-view fights and Fight Night. The UFC's president and CEO, Dana White, expressed excitement about the potential innovations Meta will bring to the UFC fan experience.
This partnership is distinct from the UFC's ongoing media rights negotiations, which are scheduled to begin later in April. The UFC's exclusive negotiation period with its current media partner, ESPN, concludes on April 15. It has been reported that ESPN does not intend to renew its deal before this deadline.
The groundwork for this sponsorship began in the latter half of 2024. Grant Norris-Jones, the head of global partnerships at TKO, revealed that the UFC explored various potential partners across different sectors. Meta stood out as a company that could meet many of the UFC's needs. Norris-Jones highlighted that Meta will serve multiple roles, including being the official marketing partner, AI glasses partner, wearable partner, and social media partner.
Meta's Threads platform will host exclusive UFC content and will be integrated into live UFC broadcasts. Both companies are already planning additional announcements over the next few months. One of the upcoming projects includes a new UFC fighter rankings system that will leverage Meta's technology. This partnership is expected to bring significant changes to how fans engage with UFC content.
