UK Braces for More Stormy Weather

The UK is still dealing with harsh weather. Snow, ice, rain, and wind are causing trouble in many places. This is all happening after Storm Goretti hit earlier in the week. The good news is that things should get better by the start of next week. In Scotland, the weather warnings have gotten worse. A yellow warning for snow and ice has turned into an amber one. This means people in central and northeastern Scotland need to be extra careful. The warning is in place from early Sunday morning until Monday afternoon. The bad weather is also causing problems with power. More than 20, 000 homes in England and Wales are still without electricity. The National Grid is working hard to fix the issue. They have already restored power to almost 170, 000 properties. The amber warning in Scotland is a big deal. It could make traveling by road or train very difficult. The Met Office says there could be power cuts and even problems with mobile phone service. Fiona Hyslop, the Scottish Transport Secretary, advises people to delay their trips if possible. On Saturday, more than 20, 000 properties were still without electricity. The Met Office says the really cold weather will be leaving next week. Temperatures are expected to be between 9C and 11C in the south and about 6-8C elsewhere. This should bring some relief to those who have been dealing with the harsh conditions.
