In the wake of Donald Trump Jr's social media post suggesting a link between Ukraine and the California wildfires, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has offered to send 150 firefighters to help. This comes as California faces one of its most devastating natural disasters, with entire neighborhoods reduced to ash and over 150, 000 people evacuated. Canadian and Mexican firefighters have already joined the effort, despite potential tariffs from President Trump. Zelenskyy stated, "The situation is extremely difficult, and Ukrainians can help Americans save lives. "
Meanwhile, Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum announced a humanitarian aid group departing for Los Angeles. The California Governor, Gavin Newsom, expressed gratitude, noting that the state's response involves nearly 1, 400 fire engines, 84 aircraft, and over 14, 000 personnel. Even inmates from California's prison system are assisting, with almost 950 incarcerated firefighters deployed. However, this practice remains controversial due to the minimal pay and dangerous nature of their work.
With the two major fires, the Palisades and Eaton fires, still uncontained after six days, strengthening winds threaten to worsen the situation.
