Ukraine's First Missile Strike on Russia: What It Means
Kyiv, UkraineFri Nov 22 2024
In an unexpected turn, Ukraine has reportedly used American-made missiles to target Russia’s Bryansk region. This is the first time in almost three years of war that Ukraine has fired missiles into Russian territory. The weapons used, called ATACMS, were supplied by the U. S. and have a longer range than what Ukraine has used before.
Meanwhile, Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has been making worrying statements about potentially using nuclear weapons. He’s suggesting that an attack on Russia, even if backed by a nuclear power like the U. S. , could trigger a nuclear response. This is raising tensions even higher between the two countries and their allies.
Ukraine’s forces are facing tough times, with heavy pressure from Russian troops along a long front line. Civilians are also suffering, often hit by Russian drones and missiles. In the middle of this, Ukraine claims to have struck a Russian weapons depot using missiles that reach deep into enemy territory. Russia, on the other hand, says it shot down most of these missiles, with debris causing minor damage.

The U. S. has also recently eased restrictions on supplying Ukraine with longer-range missiles, which has made Russia even more upset.
These developments come as the world watches how the war could end. The U. S. president-elect has made promises to swiftly end the war, but it’s not clear how this will happen. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that recent attacks by Russia show that Russian President Putin is not interested in finding a peaceful solution.
