The Ukraine-Russia conflict is at a standstill. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has a plan to end the war. He wants to talk about it with U. S. President Donald Trump. Trump thinks there's a chance for a deal. But he knows it's not easy. One side wants peace, but the other might not.
Russia's leader, Vladimir Putin, might not agree to any deal. Not unless things get much worse for him. Right now, Russia is struggling. Sanctions are hurting its big oil companies. The economy is in trouble. Russia is spending too much on war. It's losing young soldiers. But Ukraine is also facing challenges. It had to leave a key town but won it back on Christmas.
Zelensky's plan is simple. Ukraine wants security guarantees. It wants a strong army with help from the West. It wants to join the EU. In return, Ukraine would pull back from some areas. Russia would do the same. This could end the fighting. But Putin seems to be stalling. He's not serious about negotiating.
Trump has threatened to be tougher on Russia. He could send more weapons to Ukraine. These could hit deep into Russia. He could also freeze more Russian money. The West needs to make Putin pay more for this war. That might be the only way to stop it.
