In a tense moment during a mission, a group of Ukrainian soldiers found themselves in a life-or-death situation. A Russian drone, armed with explosives, was hot on their trail, trying to strike their vehicle. The soldiers in the back tried to shoot it down, but hitting a fast-moving drone is no easy task.
The driver, however, proved to be a true professional. He saw the drone coming and knew exactly what to do. He hit the brakes at just the right moment, causing the drone to explode a few feet away from the vehicle. The soldiers scrambled out, one even breaking a leg in the process, but they were alive.
This incident happened back in September in the Sumy region of Ukraine. The footage, captured by one of the soldiers, was recently released. It shows the kind of drone warfare that has become common in the conflict. Both sides use small, explosive-laden drones to target enemy positions and personnel.
The soldiers were in a buggy, a fast and maneuverable but unprotected vehicle. The drone they faced was a fiber-optic FPV, which can't be jammed or disabled electronically. The only way to stop it is to shoot it down, but that's easier said than done, especially from a moving vehicle.
The soldier who captured the footage, known by his call sign "Predator, " said that the driver's quick thinking and skill saved their lives. He praised the drivers in his battalion, saying they are highly skilled professionals.
Both Russian and Ukrainian forces continue to use these small drones to deliver strikes on enemy positions. Drones are estimated to be responsible for destroying around 90% of targets on the battlefield.
