In a recent survey, over half of Ukrainians said they would not give up land in eastern Donetsk just to get security promises from other countries. This area is still under Ukrainian control. The poll, done by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS), showed that 54% of people strongly disagree with this idea. Meanwhile, 39% would only accept it if the security guarantees were strong enough.
Ukraine wants legal security promises to stop future Russian attacks. The U. S. is pushing Ukraine to make a quick peace deal, but Ukraine refuses to give up land it still controls in Donbas. Donbas is a big industrial area with lots of minerals. Russia already controls almost all of Luhansk and parts of Donetsk.
The poll also found that almost 70% of Ukrainians do not think current talks will lead to lasting peace. More than half believe Russia will attack again if there is a ceasefire and security guarantees. However, opinions are split on whether the U. S. would help if Russia invaded again.
Russia has not shown much interest in reducing its demands. Instead, it has increased air strikes, damaging Ukraine's energy systems and leaving many without power and heating in the cold.
Ukrainians are wary of unmet promises from the past. They want strong security guarantees before making any deals. The survey shows that people are cautious and do not trust easy solutions.
