Ukrainians' Trust in NATO and EU Membership Wanes

As the war with Russia drags on, Ukrainians are becoming less hopeful about joining NATO and the EU, according to a recent poll. The survey, conducted by Gallup, found that fewer Ukrainians believe their country will join these Western alliances anytime soon. The number of people thinking Ukraine will never join NATO has nearly doubled since the war began. Similarly, faith in the Ukrainian president's "victory plan, " which includes NATO membership, has wavered after the NATO secretary-general did not endorse it. Some NATO members, like Hungary, strongly oppose Ukraine's entry, fearing it could escalate tensions. Ukrainians' hopes for EU membership have also declined, with more people now thinking it will never happen. The shift in attitudes comes amidst rising war fatigue and varying support for a negotiated peace.
