The scientists looked at the material under a microscope and found that it has a 3D-flower-like shape. They also did some tests to confirm that the bismuth particles were loaded onto the material. These tests showed that the material has a large surface area, which means it can hold a lot of bismuth particles. The nitrogen in the material also helps to keep the particles stable and prevents them from getting too big. Using these bismuth particles, the scientists could turn 99. 85% of the 4-NP into 4-AP in just four minutes. This shows that these particles are really good at speeding up the reaction. The scientists also found that the material kept its stability even after being used five times, which is great because it means it can be reused. The researchers think that the nitrogen in the material helps to make the catalytic site (the place where the reaction happens) work faster. The tiny holes and spaces in the material also help to move the chemicals around, making the reaction happen more easily.
