Uncovering Business Impact on Processes: A Clustering and Influence Journey

Improving business processes in large companies often faces a big hurdle: the people running these processes don't have a clear, fact-based understanding of how things really happen on the ground. They might not know about all the different ways processes are carried out or the exceptions that pop up. While process mining can reveal these details from event logs, sharing these findings with business people isn't easy.This paper introduces a new way to find out which business areas really influence how processes are executed. It groups similar cases based on how processes flow and then figures out which business areas are most linked to these groups. This method helps bridge the gap between the people managing business processes and the business people themselves, making it easier for them to share knowledge. As an example, the paper uses real-life data from a purchase order process. This shows how the method can work in the real world, helping companies understand their processes better.
