Uncovering the Hidden: A Sex Trafficking Case on Long Island
Sat Feb 22 2025
A man named Jorge Ramos, originally from Mexico, has been arrested for running a prostitution ring on Long Island. The 55-year-old has been accused of forcing women into sex work for years. He would threaten to expose videos of the women with clients to their families or the police if they didn't comply. This is a serious crime that often goes unnoticed.
Ramos has been living in Queens, but he would use hotels in Nassau County to arrange these illegal activities. He was using places like the Marriott in Uniondale and Hyatt Place in Garden City. This has been going on since 2019. He would use fear and threats to control the women. He would tell them that if they didn't do what he said, he would show the videos to their families or the police. This made the women scared and they kept working for him.
The victims are all adults, aged 31, 44, and 53. They are all in the country legally. The youngest victim was threatened in November 2023. She was scared that her family would find out or that she would face criminal charges. This fear kept her working for Ramos until July of this year.
Ramos is in the country illegally. He came to the US from Mexico. He might have had working papers at one point, but they have expired. He is facing serious charges. These include sex trafficking and promoting prostitution. He was held on a $250, 000 cash bond or $500, 000 bond during his court hearing. This case highlights the importance of addressing human trafficking. It also shows the need to bring those who commit serious crimes to justice, especially those who are in the country illegally.
The investigation started in July after authorities received a tip about possible human trafficking. This case is important because it shows how human trafficking can happen right under our noses. It also shows the need for vigilance and action. The Nassau County District Attorney and the Nassau County Executive have both spoken out about this case. They have emphasized the need to support the victims and bring the perpetrator to justice.
