Underground Hydrogen Treasure: Could It Fuel Our Future?

This: trillions of tons of clean energy, hidden beneath our feet. That's what a recent study found. Hydrogen, a powerful and clean fuel, is lurking deep underground, and there might be enough to power the world for centuries. Scientists think there's about 6. 2 trillion tons of it, which is way more than all the oil we know about.
Geoffrey Ellis, a scientist who led the study, says just 2% of that hydrogen could supply our energy needs for a couple of hundred years. That's a lot of power! Hydrogen can do all sorts of things, like fuel cars and power factories. It's becoming really important as we try to fight climate change.
The study found that hydrogen doesn't easily escape from underground like we thought. Some big discoveries in West Africa and Albania changed our minds about that. Ellis and his team made a model to guess how much hydrogen is down there. They think there could be between 1 billion to 10 trillion tons, with 6. 2 trillion being the most likely.
Getting this hydrogen might be tough, though. Some of it could be too deep or in hard-to-reach places. But even if we can only get to some of it, there might be enough to make a big difference.
One cool thing about natural hydrogen is that we don't have to make and store it like we do with "green" or "blue" hydrogen. We could just turn it on and off when we need it. But we still don't know exactly where all these reserves are, so scientists have to figure that out next.
Some experts think it's great, but others are cautious. They say we might not have time to get all this hydrogen out, and we need lots of other stuff to make it work. Plus, we have other clean energy sources like wind and solar that we could use instead.
