Achalasia is a rare condition that makes swallowing hard, but many doctors do not notice it right away. The symptoms can be vague, and the tools that exist to spot the problem are often underused.
In Turkey, most earlier research looked at only one hospital or was just a review of existing studies. No country‑wide picture had been painted about how doctors learn about, test for, or treat this disorder.
This new study collected information from doctors across the nation. It checked how much they know about achalasia, what tests they use, and whether high‑resolution manometry machines are available in their hospitals.
The results showed that doctors often wait too long before ordering the right test. Even when the equipment is there, many clinicians are not fully confident in interpreting the results or deciding on treatment.
The data give a first look at how knowledge gaps and equipment shortages create delays. It also points out that better training and wider access to advanced testing could help patients get treated sooner.
