Understanding Cleft Lip and Palate Through the Eyes of Muslim Parents in Punjab

Cleft lip and palate (CL/P) is a common birth defect that affects many kids around the world. It can cause serious problems for the child and their family. But how do Muslim parents in Punjab, Pakistan, see this condition? A recent study tried to find out. The study talked to 21 parents of kids with CL/P. They wanted to know how religion, culture, and spirituality play a role in how these parents understand and deal with the condition. The parents were chosen carefully to make sure they had firsthand experience with CL/P.Through deep conversations, the study found four main ideas and nine smaller themes. Many parents saw CL/P as a test from God. They used their faith to cope and stay strong. Some parents also believed in old cultural superstitions about CL/P. The study showed that religion and culture greatly influence how these parents see CL/P. Their beliefs gave them hope and courage. They prayed for their kids to get better soon. But it's important to think critically about these findings. While religion can be a source of strength, it's also crucial to rely on medical science for treatment and support. Understanding both the cultural and medical aspects of CL/P can help improve care for these kids and their families.
