Understanding Gaza: A Story of Tragedy and Inaction

Gaza Strip, PalestineFri Dec 13 2024
For over a year, Israel has been conducting a large-scale military operation in the Gaza Strip. This action is a response to a horrific attack by Hamas on October 7, 2023. Israel claims its actions are about self-defense, aiming to dismantle Hamas. But Amnesty International sees things differently. They've found evidence that Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. Genocide is a serious crime under international law. It means deliberately trying to destroy a group of people. Israel has destroyed many cities, infrastructures, and cultural sites in Gaza. They've also caused a lot of deaths and suffering. What makes this a genocide is Israel's intent. Their public statements and actions show they want to destroy the Palestinians in Gaza. They've attacked civilians and civilian areas without military necessity. They've also blocked humanitarian aid, making the situation worse. The international community needs to stop ignoring this. They must push for a ceasefire and hold Israel accountable. States should also end their blockade of Gaza and stop sending weapons to Israel. The world has a legal and moral duty to stop this genocide and bring those responsible to justice.
