Unexpected Alliance or Tariff Triumph
Washington, DC, USAThu Feb 06 2025
There was a surprise in the air. A special person, a diplomat, went a long way to show their might.
U. S. President got a call from colleagues in Washington who did not like the grand plan. One person, a director of a well known newspaper in New York, was quick to criticize the idea of a 25 percent tariff on goods that come from Mexican and Canadian countries. Another 10 percent tariff was also planned but nobody knew what to do at first. It caused a lot of worry and the newspaper was vocal about it.
Trump was ready to do anything for the country that he loved.
He wanted to put pressure on Mexico and Canada. Trump believed that by putting tariffs on goods, this would make the trade between the countries more balanced, and show them that the U. S. was serious about stopping illegal drugs from coming across the border.
Many people did not believe in the idea. They thought it was a bad idea at first and criticized it. But many people started to change their minds.
While many people were upset about the tariffs, the Mexican president was quite unhappy.
There was a lot of angry talk from the Mexican and Canadian leaders. A Mexican diplomat said that more personnel would be used to stop illegal drugs from coming into the United States for 30 days, if needed.
Eventhe Canadian prime ministerjoined in by agreeing to put more people to work on the border and also used money to improve border security.
Another leader, the leader of Colombia, had to give up, too. The tariffs had to be put to use and the leader was ready to help. He was caught between a rock and a hard place, and willing to do whatever it took to get his country out of trouble.
While the Canadian and Mexican leaders were at it, Trump was ready to go further.
The leader of China was ready to talk about the tariffs. Some people think that it could help restore the U. S. and China's relationship to the way it was a few years ago
Trump was proud of his decisions. Some people say that Trump knew what he was doing, and was able to get the goods he wanted.
The truth of the matter was that Mexico and Canada needed the U. S. and the U. S. got the last laugh.
Canada and Mexico did not have much of a choice about the situation, and this was a good thing for the U. S. Economists would agree with this.
Many people are able to buy from all over the world, even if things do get expensive.
It is much more difficult for Mexico and Canada because they import goods that are tough to get from other countries. And Trump knew this all along.
